MATERIA PRIMA at La Estación Espacial, Santurce

Added on by Javier Bosques.

Materia Prima brings together recent work by Javier Bosques, Jorge González and Beatriz Santiago-Muñoz. Artworks on display explore the exuberant tropical flora and environment to reveal ideological layers underlying the local landscape. The native vegetation, natural fibers and sunlight, for example, are employed as raw material (materia prima) through artistic agency. Through video, sculpture and botanical material, the exhibition presents instances where natural phenomena is transformed into cultural content. The artworks inhabit the space that separates matter from material.

'CONTRATOS' at ÁREA Lugar de Proyectos, Caguas

Added on by Javier Bosques.

Javier Bosques and Maggie Crowley come together in a two person show titled, Contracts. This exhibition explores the dualities of agreeing, negotiating and making decisions in the world.  Through natural, emotional, physical, and felt agreements, the work is about engagements that are both literal and imagined.  In one iteration, Crowley demonstrates a tangible human contract with the earth and questions how painting can eclipse the same euphoria induced by natural landscapes. The exhibition is an inquiry and a declaration. In it's contrarian dichotomy, how is expression contracted by another? How are contracts reciprocal and unknown?

'POSITIONING SYSTEMS' at Microscope Gallery, NY

Added on by Javier Bosques.

How do you jump a fence you cannot see? To make a map is to chart a new version of the world and to outline new boundaries. These 17 videos are elaborate rituals wrapped in digital containers to outline places where knowledge and confusion coalesce. Like flashes of light into nothing, each one is an expansion on what can and cannot be known and how we might locate ourselves within an accelerating universe.

'DESTEJIENDO EL ARCO IRIS' at Anvalancha, Buenos Aires

Added on by Javier Bosques.

Sunspots, the dark side of the Moon, the light spectrum, the blue of the sea; The exhibition 'Destejiendo el Arco Iris' deals with these and other phenomenons with a series of artworks and experiments, from objects and paintings to video installations and texts. Interwinding  science and poetry, the show evidences the particular fascination for the unknown, that has stimulated both the artistic sensibility and the scientific genius through out the course of history.

At Avalancha gallery the show will present newly commissioned artwork next to previously presented pieces, 'scientific' instruments and archival material.

Caribbean: Crossroads of the World explores the diverse cultural history of the Caribbean and its diaspora, highlighting over two centuries of rarely seen works dating from after the Haitian Revolution to the present. The exhibition is the culmination of nearly a decade of collaborative research and scholarship organized by El Museo del Barrio in conjunction with the Queens Museum and the Studio Museum in Harlem. The Miami presentation, curated for PAMM by guest curator Elvis Fuentes, is a honed reiteration of this critically-acclaimed survey and offers a vital reflection of Miami's Caribbean community. The exhibition is the centerpiece of a season at PAMM dedicated to Caribbean art.
